A POPULAR sporting and cultural event is returning to Cleethorpes on Saturday 11th July, thanks to YMCA Humber, VANEL and Big Local.
The Cleethorpes Beach Festival returns to the resort this Saturday from 11am until 3pm and will this year be held at the North Promenade end of the seafront, on the beach between the Punchbowl and Wonderland.
Last year, over 500 people took to the sands to partake in a range of sporting and other activities, including beach cricket, volleyball and basketball.
And this time around, organisers are anticipating a bigger turnout with more activities and an earlier slot in the summer calendar.
Jenny Hodson, Community Games Coordinator for YMCA Humber said:
“Feedback from last year’s event was really positive and we later received a request from some groups that they would like to see future activities take place on the North Promenade.
“This is where Big Local came in for 2015; they are doing a lot of work in the local community in North Cleethorpes and this events fits in with their portfolio.
“Their involvement has allowed us to put on a few extra sporting activities and to bring some local musical acts into perform too.”
Confirmed sporting activities on the day include, tag rugby, football, basketball, beach volleyball, beach cricket, Frisbee sports, athletics and a martial arts demonstration.
In addition, there will be live music from a DJ and three local bands.
Jenny is hoping that the local community comes out to support the event.
She continued: “We really want to show everyone that North Cleethorpes has something to offer.
“The event is free entry and has lots of activities for all ages, so we hope people will come along and perhaps try something they haven’t before.
“Any feedback that is gathered from the event will enable participating organisations to look at how they can put on further community activities in that field on the seafront.”
