Young people urged to ‘GoDoo’ with launch of new app

July 11, 2016

A GROUP of local youth organisations is urging young people across the area to ‘GoDoo’ something with the launch of a new smartphone app designed to promote activities in North East Lincolnshire.

GoDoo is a smartphone app and website and will be officially launched at a special event held at Grimsby Auditorium on Friday 22 July between 11am and 3pm.

The app has been developed by Youth Partnership North East Lincs (YPNEL), in conjunction with Crystal Pyramid Limited and will be available on both the Apple Store and Google Play Store, as well as through its own website, www.godoo.org.uk.

YPNEL is a group of charities and youth groups from the North East Lincolnshire area, including YMCA Humber, Franklin College, Get Hooked on Positive Activities, Oasis Hub South Grimsby, Lincs Inspire, Centre 4, Oasis Academy Immingham and Shalom Youth Centre, which aim to provide and promote activities for 8-19-year-olds in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham and the surrounding area.

And the launch event at Grimsby Auditorium on Friday 22 July is already shaping up to be one of the biggest and best events of the summer.

There is celebrity endorsement already on board with appearances by This is England star Tommy Turgoose and members of the Grimsby Town FC squad, as well as a host of activities and live entertainment.

The popular Rock School will be performing live on the stage and there will be demonstrations of Mixed Martial Arts and parkour and the opportunity to try laser shooting, cage football and a climbing wall, plus much, much more.

Open to 8-19-year-olds, the event is free to enter, although some activities may charge. There will be an opportunity to find out more about the app and the work of YPNEL during the event.

Michelle Donner is Hub Coordinator for Oasis Hub South Grimsby and is part of YPNEL.

She said: “We are very excited for the launch of the GoDoo app and hope that it will provide young people with all the information they need to utilise the activities available to them in their local area.

“Our research showed that young people would interact better with a smartphone app and it also provides a quick and efficient way for activities providers to upload their details and promote their events.

“We’re looking forward to the launch event at Grimsby Auditorium and we are delighted to have Tommy Turgoose and Grimsby Town on board, as well as all the activities and entertainment for young people to enjoy.”
