Oasis Immingham’s Second Sleep Easy Success

February 14, 2014

STAFF and pupils from Oasis Academy Immingham again slept rough…so others don’t have to at their second Sleep Easy event on 31st January.

Organised by Oasis Immingham chaplain, Shane Linford, the rough sleepers at the school took to their cardboard boxes for a second year running.

In total over 40 people took part in the event, which raises money for homeless charities in North East Lincolnshire, YMCA Humber, Harbour Place and CARE.

And, despite wind and rain coming in off the nearby Humber Estuary, Shane was delighted with how the night panned out.

He said: “The young people were brilliant, a real credit to the school and their dedication to supporting those less fortunate than themselves is encouraging.

“They enjoyed learning more about homelessness and it is pleasing to see our relationship with YMCA Humber continue to blossom.”

And Shane is hopeful that his fundraisers can match last year’s total of over £2,000 towards the Sleep Easy campaign.

He continued: “The pupils did superbly last year to raise over £2,000 between them and they have been working equally as hard this year, so hopefully we can add a good amount to the campaign.”

YMCA Humber Communications Coordinator Jonathan Byrne was equally delighted to have Oasis Immingham on board again for Sleep Easy 2014.

He said: “We have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the young people of Oasis Immingham in the past 12 months through our Drop Down Days.

“Their enthusiasm to learn about the work of the YMCA and youth homelessness in general is exemplary and we really value their support.”
