YOUNG people from our housing projects have recently been enjoying dance sessions courtesy of ‘Fit Street’.
‘Fit Street’ is a project that targets young females aged 16-25 by providing a Mixed Style Dance programme.
However, females of any age living at YMCA Humber’s Foyer and Peaks Lane projects have been welcomed to join the dance workshops.
Sarah Hagerup, who is running the dance workshops said:
“The project aims to encourage more females to get active, in a supportive and enthusiastic environment, as well as encourage them to participate regularly and celebrate their achievements.
“Our programme will improve participant’s confidence and change their perception of sport by reducing their inhibitions.
Funding for dance workshops
Funded by Active Humber, through their Sportivate programme, the project runs for eight weeks especially for residents at YMCA Humber’s housing projects.
Classes are free and if participants attend all eight weeks, they will receive a certificate, a ‘Yes You Can’ T-shirt and other incentives.
Sarah added: “The aims of our ‘Fit Street’ programme are to help participants build confidence, learn new skills, improve co-ordination and raise their aspirations in our non-judgemental, supportive environment.
“The initial sessions were well received by those that attended and it was lovely to see everyone joining in and enjoying dancing
“The sessions are run like an exercise class where participants follow the instructor doing fun, easy to pick up routines to popular music.”
