YMCA HUMBER is delighted to announce that a major Sleep Easy fundraising target has been met.
With fundraising for the 2014 event drawing to a close, the current total of £27,000 means that Sleep Easy has raised over £100,000 for youth homelessness in the Humber Region.
A record 260 people took part in the fundraiser this year, taking to their cardboard boxes in Grimsby, Immingham, Scunthorpe and Hull.
In total Sleep Easy in the Humber Region has seen over 500 registrants sleeping out in locations as diverse as churches, schools, youth clubs, shopping centres and football grounds.
To put those tremendous fundraising efforts into context; the national total for Sleep Easy stands just shy of £1-million, meaning that over a tenth of the funds raised have come from this region.
A special mention goes to the young people of Oasis Academy Immingham, who were taking part in their second successive Sleep Easy.
This year, the school raised over £500 for Sleep Easy and Foyer Project Manager Andrew Hornsby was delighted to receive a cheque from Oasis Immingham Chaplain Shane Linford and some of the students who took part, including ten-year-old Serefina.
YMCA Humber would of course like to extend our thanks to the site hosts, Shalom Youth Centre (Grimsby), Freshney Place (Grimsby), Oasis Academy Immingham, New Life Church (Scunthorpe), Holy Trinity Church (Hull) and Wilberforce College (Hull).
And also to our partners, who put so much time and effort into ensuring the event was a success, CARE NE Lincs, Harbour Place, Child Dynamix, Hull HARP, City Life Church (Hull) and the Lighthouse.
Tentative enquiries for Sleep Easy 2015 have been received and we will be looking forward to the event in the coming months.
