Residents take to the kitchen to bake up some sweet treats for themselves in an engagement activity that sets to build up their foundational cooking skills.
On the menu for this activity was a British classic, Victoria Sponge Cake, a staple of UK desserts with a recipe that dates back to the 16th century.
Engagement staff provided residents with the ingredients, utensils, and support to bake their culinary creations; allowing them to get creative while learning some fundamental skills.
Toni, a member of the engagement staff, said:
“YMCA Humber support the residents with cooking and baking because we feel it’s an important life skill which will help them when they go on to live independently.
“Learning to cook cheap and healthy meals with a few treat options will help them maintain a healthy lifestyle, whilst showing them it can be done on a budget.
“It’s also fun to do, so can help those who suffer with mental health issues to socialise, work in a team and improve their mood.”
