Connor, who has volunteered in the Finance Department is shortlisted as a finalist for Young Volunteer of the Year
Connor has been a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer in the Finance Department of the YMCA Humber Commercial Office for over a year now. He has become a valued member of the team, volunteering every Thursday on his day off from college. The finance team nominated Connor for the Young Volunteer of the Year Awards as they believed he deserves to gain National recognition for his achievements.
On Friday 20th September Connor will travel to London with Briony (Finance Assistant) to complete an interview for the judging process ready for the result to be announced on Friday 8th November.
Connor was a resident at YMCA Humber’s Foyer Project from October 2017 to March 2019 and is currently studying BTEC Business with Finance and Media at Franklin College in Grimsby. Connor joined the Commercial Office at YMCA Humber as part of the Finance Department in 2018.
Connor moved into his own flat , living independently of the YMCA, Despite no longer living with YMCA Humber he continues to show his dedication by fulfilling his role within the team and he has gone from strength to strength learning new skills including producing sales invoices, data entry onto Sage 200 software, producing excel spreadsheets with financial information, money handling and working within a busy environment.
Staff within the financial team have seen Connor grow into a confident individual and is now a vital member of the team. Connor has a great future and a strong work ethic. In Connor’s own words, “Before I started volunteering for YMCA Humber, I struggled with social and communication skills and found the thought of working in a small team daunting”.
“I now feel the improved social and communication skills have boosted my confidence and I am ready to move forward in my chosen career of accountancy”.
