YMCA Residents Begin a RHS Level 1 Award Horticulture Course Gaining Knowledge and Skills in Horticulture, Improving Social Skills and Gaining National Qualification
Training and Development at Green Futures
Three Residents of YMCA Humber have successfully enrolled in a RHS Level 1 Award in Practical Horticulture working with Green Futures, a social enterprise scheme in Grimsby who work with people of all ages to improve their health and wellbeing.
The two month course will teach participants practical skills ranging from soil preparation, learning how to identify different plants, and all aspects of growth from seed to harvest. The project will further enhance the YMCA Humber Orchgard programme (Orchard and Garden) which continues to benefit residents providing fresh, home grown produce in the on site orchard which now provides fruit for the YMCA kitchen.
The course encourages additional activities that are immersed in nature, in keeping with the YMCA Health and Wellbeing ethos, and the course will help to further the understanding of the significance and value of fresh, homegrown produce.
