YMCA Humber is a provider of support services in North East Lincolnshire and part of the wider YMCA movement which operates internationally in 119 countries to form the largest and oldest youth charity in the world.

YMCA Humber is a youth charity that specialises in supported accommodation for over 100 people in communities around North- East Lincolnshire. We also provide training and education, mental health support and youth activities.

Last year we provided over 39,400 safe nights of accommodation for vulnerable people and over 40 training opportunities for young people. Community House Support Coach
1 x Full time – 40 hours per week with the ability to be flexible with working times.

Pay – £9.22 per hour increasing to £10.45 in September 2020
Location – Grimsby

In this largely independent role, you will work alongside residents in two semi-supported houses, offering support based on life-coaching and person-centred principles. You will need to be skilled in active listening and positive questioning whilst enabling residents to meet their aspirations such as being healthy, managing finances and preparing for living more independently.
Key accountabilities will include –
• Practical living skills, including shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry etc.
• Budgeting and money management
• Maintaining healthy relationships
• Improving health and wellbeing, including mental health
• Maintaining good personal hygiene and cleanliness of accommodation
• Accessing and engaging with external agencies and services
• Accessing education, training, and employment opportunities
• Addressing behavioural issues (e.g. substance misuse, aggression, offending – where necessary)
• Preparing for a successful move on and living independently

A methodical, well organised and positive approach to work is essential.
A knowledge of the training, education and voluntary sector, social housing, the welfare benefits system plus the ability to keep comprehensive records is essential.

Care Leavers Support Coach

1 x Full time – average 42 hours per week over a 4-week shift pattern
1 x half time – average 21 hours per week over a 4-week shift pattern

Pay – £9.22 per hour increasing to £10.45 in September 2020
Location – Grimsby

Following the opening of our Care Leavers home in May 2020 we are now recruiting permanent support coaches to work a 24-hour shift rota.
For this challenging role experience of working in a similar environment or with similar clients would be highly beneficial along with a recognised qualification in working with young people.

The key skills required in this role will include –
– Assist in implementing the care plans for individual young people.
– Encourage and support young people’s independence by assisting their independent living skills.
– Escort and supervise social trips and outings.
– Encourage independence and successes on an educational level.
– Provide a caring environment so that the care leavers feel secure.
– Ensure high standards of cleanliness and homeliness are maintained.
– Support the young people in attending appointments.
– Please note that lone working will be a requirement of this role.

Rent Officer
1 x Full time – 37 ½ hours per week

Salary – £21,963 – £24,653 depending on experience

Key accountabilities of this role, which reports to the Finance and Information Services Manager, will include –
– Ensuring all residents’ rent and payments for services are paid in a timely manner and payment plan are in place if necessary.
– Ensuring all resident rent accounts are up to date and accurately reflect all payments made and rent and other charges owed.
– Ensuring all support Coaches are trained in the processes to support residents making online Housing Benefits and Universal Credit claims without errors.
– Managing resident arrears – both personal and housing benefit claims in line with operational targets ensuring maximised income via Housing Benefit.
This role requires –
– An up to date understanding of welfare entitlement legislation relating to funding for social housing.
– Experience of supporting individuals who may exhibit challenging and/or chaotic behaviour.
– An understanding of other issues that may impact our residents’ ability to manage money effectively, including the Universal Credit framework.
– An ability to understand / interpret financial data and manipulate
