YMCA Humber is a youth charity that specialises in supported accommodation for over 100 young people in communities around North East Lincolnshire. It also provides education and training, mental health support and youth activities to support young people throughout the Humber area.

This is a newly defined role at YMCA Humber, created in the midst of a new, exciting era for the organisation; the opening of an £8 million state-of-the-art facility later this year will greatly improve and expand the services and reach of the charity across the region.

The new building will provide high-quality, aspirational accommodation for over 70 young people. A community Café will serve our residents, local businesses, community groups and the public. An exhibition area will allow local artists and community groups to display their work. A multi-purpose hall will enable health and wellbeing activities, conferences, meetings, performances, and events – all these facilities will also be utilised and marketed to local businesses and the wider community.

This role of Café Cook, reporting to the Café Manager, has the scope of –

  • Ability to cook food items ordered from the café menu to include burgers, paninis, sandwiches, main meals, breakfast orders and drinks.
  • Operating a till where required and handling cash or using cashless systems.
  • To help with preparation of buffets.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are understood and complied with.
  • To ensure safe food handling practices with relevance to HACCP and food hygiene requirements are completed.
  • Preparation of café areas.
  • To record all food safety temperatures on relevant monitoring forms, daily.
  • To stock the chiller cabinet and complete stock control sheet, daily.
  • Help in the preparation of events and buffets for YMCA related activities.
  • To ensure the kitchen is maintained to a high level by following a regular cleaning schedule.

As the successful candidate you will have experience in a busy food preparation establishment, along with a formal catering qualification.

Please note that due to the nature of this role an enhanced DBS and driving license would be advantageous.
