Devised at the YMCA in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1930 by Juan Carlos Ceriani, Futsal is a five-a-side version of football that focuses on developing skills such as ball control and teamwork.

North East Lincolnshire is one of the country’s premier regions for Futsal talent and YMCA Humber is proud to support Junior Futsal coaching and leagues, which run from our Sports Hall in the Peaks Lane Project.

Grimsby Futsal League is approaching its 20th anniversary; the GFL was the first UK League affiliated to its governing body. Futsal in Grimsby is open to all ages and the experienced coaches all share a passion for the development of futsal and players. Their motto is ‘The game first, results second.’

Futsal is the format of Small-Sided Football that is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA with World and European Championships for club and National Teams. The name ‘Futsal’ combines the Spanish words for ‘Hall’ – Sal and ‘Football’ – Futbol into Futsal. It is a five a-side game played with hockey –sized goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce. As a small sided game, players are constantly placed in situations where they must receive or play whilst under pressure or in a confined spaces and it places considerable demand on technique, movement, tactical awareness and fitness.
