YMCA Humber Sleep Easy Event
10th Annual Sleep Easy Event raises over £27,000 for young homeless people
Local people helped raise in excess of £27,000 for local charities at YMCA Humber’s annual fundraising event in February when they slept out for one night in Grimsby and Hull.
More than 150 brave souls took part at the event on Friday 2nd February, enduring freezing conditions to help raise awareness of homelessness issues and valuable funds for to support the work of local charities.
Debbie Cook, YMCA Humber Chief Executive, said:
“We’re thrilled about the success of this year’s event and I’d like to thank everyone who took part and spent the night out with us.
“Thanks to your support we plan to upgrade our residential accommodation and provide resources to deal with the immediate support needs of our residents. One night out can make a lifetime difference.”
YMCA Humber has operated in the area since 1882 and now provides supported accommodation for up to 103 each night of the year, training & education services, mental health support and youth and community services.
Funds raised to improve the lives of YMCA residents will be put straight to work and will be utilised to upgrade 13 studio flats at our Foyer and the lounge at our Peaks Lane site, in addition to providing immediate help to meet the needs of residents including mental health support, providing essential items (toiletries, bedding and underwear etc) and regular meals for new residents while they get on their feet.
