Training and Engagement Programme
YMCA are proud to offer new engagement programmes to all residents. The programmes have been designed to engage, challenge and inspire.
The aims of the programme are:
- Boost self esteem
- Nurture self confidence
- Advance team building skills
- Foster Employability skills
- Practise problem solving skills
- Challenge yourself
- Support social and emotional well-being
- Enable socialising with your fellow residents
Activities on may include bowling, gardening, money management, baking, cooking, rock climbing, craft activities, employability skills, relaxation sessions and trips out. Every activity is designed to promote at least one area of development. The afternoon engagement activities are also opportunities to practice classroom taught skills, putting theory into ‘real life’ situations. The programmes offer residents the opportunities to develop existing and new skills, developing the confidence and self-esteem to move into further education, training or the local employment market.
Way Forward runs over 4 days a week for a duration of between 12-14 weeks. Each session is designed to develop an area of physical, cognitive, social and emotional well-being. Most of the programmes include City and Guilds accredited functional skills and employability courses. In addition, AQA Unit Award Scheme achievement certificates are awarded for new skills developed e.g. sewing on a button.
Way Forward integrates other YMCA projects such as At One and the Orchard project, maximising a wide range of development opportunities for residents. On successful completion of a full programme, residents receive a memories folder as recognition of their successes and achievements.
