We're Running The Yorkshire Marathon For Kent Street

One Team. One Goal. Running for Kent Street.
YMCA Humber staff and trustees are heading to York this October, and they’re taking on one of their biggest physical challenges yet to support young people right here in Grimsby.
On Sunday 19th October, a team from YMCA Humber will take part in the Yorkshire Marathon Festival, with runners entering both the full marathon and the marathon relay. But this isn’t just about personal achievement. The entire team is running to raise funds to improve the charity’s Kent Street Youth Hub in the heart of the East Marsh.
The campaign, called ‘Running for Kent Street’, is a team effort. It’s all about showing the charity’s deep commitment to the young people it supports and raising funds to make the Youth Hub a better place for everyone who walks through its doors.
A space that matters
YMCA Humber’s Youth Hub on Kent Street offers support, activities and a safe place for young people, including those experiencing hardship, other issues, or mental health challenges. It’s already a vital part of the local area, but the team wants to do more.
“We want Kent Street to be a place that feels like a second home for young people,” said Kate Conway, Chief Executive of YMCA Humber. "This is about investing in people, in a place that matters, and in a future we believe in.”
Why we run
For some team members, this will be their first time running a marathon or relay. For others, it’s a chance to show leadership beyond the office. But every one of them is clear: they’re doing it for the community.
“We’ve seen first-hand what a difference Kent Street makes,” said Amy Rogers, Trustee at YMCA Humber.
“The young people who come through our doors show strength and resilience every single day. Running a marathon is our way of honouring that and raising funds so we can give them more opportunities, better facilities and a place they feel proud to call theirs.”
How you can help
YMCA Humber is asking the public to get behind the campaign by donating via the team’s JustGiving page, sharing the campaign on social media, or simply cheering the team on in the weeks ahead.
Every donation will go directly towards improvements at the Kent Street Youth Hub, from brighter, more welcoming communal areas to upgraded equipment and enhanced support spaces.
