YMCA Humber are thrilled with the success of their free youth club
In June 2022, YMCA Humber received funding from Active Humber through their Children in Need funded project, which is being used to extend their youth Health and Wellbeing provision.
Since receiving funding, YMCA Humber have launched their new youth work programme and are running free youth clubs from Kent Street skate park. A high number of children and parents have shown an interest in the youth club since this started at the end of June 2022.
Sarita Karir, Youth Work Specialist at YMCA Humber said, “the attendance to the sessions has exceeded our expectations. Around 40 children are turning up after school raring to go, many of them nip home for tea and then come back again! We are buying more equipment in an effort to keep up with the numbers. The trust, relationships and connections that have been built with the youth and their families is growing daily, with many parents joining in on activities.”
Kate Conway, Chief Executive Officer of YMCA Humber added, “we knew there was a demand in the area for a safe place where children could spend their time after school and during school holidays, and we are thrilled to be able to provide a free youth club with the support from Active Humber which has proven to be a success.”
The YMCA @ Kent Street youth club takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 3.30pm – 7.30pm, and is suitable for all ages, however young children must be accompanied by an adult.
The sports and wellbeing activities currently running include football, tennis, badminton, netball, cricket, green boules, giant Jenga, snakes and ladders, dominoes and arts and crafts.
YMCA Humber will be adding additional sessions to their current timetable during the summer holidays, and are looking for volunteers to help run sports and wellbeing activities during the week.
