On this International Women’s Day, we are celebrating women who do not just lead but who change the game itself.
Kate Conway’s story is both powerful and inspiring. During her seven years at YMCA Humber, she has played a key role in transforming lives in the local area. Kate is a people first leader who places wellbeing and opportunity at the heart of everything she does. Her purpose to transform lives has created a ripple effect that has empowered both her team and the wider community.
Since becoming CEO in 2022, Kate’s influence has extended far beyond YMCA Humber itself. Through strong partnerships and community driven work, she continues to champion collaboration and positive change. Kate is a genuine change maker, helping to shape an organisation that is more inclusive, ambitious and focused on lasting impact.
Leading a charity that supports people across the community begins with strong leadership. Through wraparound care, community sessions and housing support, YMCA Humber helps people access the opportunities they need to move forward in life. Kate empowers her team every day, giving them the confidence and support to empower others in return.
Kate also leads by example. Last year she took on the Yorkshire Marathon, raising money to support the Kent Street Youth Hub and the young people who rely on it. It is a reflection of her commitment to the community and her willingness to go the extra mile to create opportunities for others.
Through her vision, Kate has created opportunities, championed individuality and inspired the next generation to think bigger about what is possible. Her leadership goes beyond organisational success. It is about creating an environment where people can thrive, feel supported and know that they are valued. The YMCA Humber ethos of “Belong. Contribute. Thrive.” is reflected in everything she does.
This International Women’s Day, her story reminds us that real change often begins with one leader who is willing to think bigger and inspire others to act.
