New East Marsh Drop-In Offers Free Advice and Support for Local Residents

A new community-led service is launching in the East Marsh to provide residents with free, face-to-face advice and personalised support to help them through tough times.
The service is a partnership between YMCA Humber and Citizens Advice, and it will start as a pilot project on Monday 4th August 2025. It will take place at 21 Freeman Street, Grimsby, every Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 12 noon.
Local people can drop in for support on a range of issues including:
- Monday – Benefits
- Tuesday – Housing
- Wednesday – Debt
The new service is not just about giving advice. It is about helping people take action and move forward. Whether you are facing financial hardship, dealing with housing problems, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s pressures, trained advisers and support staff will be on hand to listen, guide, and support you with your next steps.
“Advice. Support. Wellbeing. Action.” is the message at the heart of this initiative, which aims to reach people who may struggle to access online or phone-based services. For many in the East Marsh, where car ownership is low and digital exclusion is high, local, face-to-face support is not just helpful, it is essential.
The drop-in is open access and no appointment is needed. Staff are trained to offer not only expert advice, but also emotional support and practical follow-up, helping to make sure that advice is acted on, not just received.
“We know that people do not just need information, they need help to make things happen” explained Kerry Davis, Wellbeing Manager at YMCA Humber. “Sometimes that means emotional support. Sometimes it means someone checking in to help you stay on track. This new drop-in does exactly that, it turns advice into action.”
“Open to all this new drop-in service will make it easier for the community to access our expert advice and to get support locally” said Duncan Rossiter, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice North East Lincolnshire. “Everybody faces problems in their lives, and the expert team at Citizens Advice will help people to find solutions to those problems. In combination with the practical and wellbeing support offered by the team at YMCA, we know this project will make a real difference to the lives of those we aim to help.”
Whether you need support with budgeting or understanding your rights, the new Freeman Street drop-in is here for you.
