A team of dedicated staff and a trustee from YMCA Humber will take on the Yorkshire Marathon Festival this October to raise vital funds for improvements to the local charity’s Kent Street Youth Hub in Grimsby’s East Marsh.

The challenge, taking place on Sunday 19th October, will see the charity’s Chief Executive, a trustee, and a team of staff from across the organisation participate in the Yorkshire Marathon and the Marathon Relay, running as one team with one goal: to make Kent Street an even better place for the young people who use it every day.

The campaign, titled ‘Running for Kent Street’, is raising funds through a single JustGiving page and aims to support the transformation of YMCA Humber’s Youth Hub on Kent Street into an even more welcoming, functional and inspiring space for young people in the East Marsh.

Since launching the campaign, the team has already raised over £2,100 for their cause but want to raise even more! That’s why they are continuing to encourage donations from local supporters, friends and businesses across Grimsby and beyond. The charity hopes to build on this momentum in the final days leading up to race day.

“We’re not just running for fitness or fun,” said Kate Conway, Chief Executive of YMCA Humber, who will be running the full marathon.

“We’re running because we believe in the potential of young people in our community. Kent Street is at the heart of our work in the East Marsh, and this is our way of going the extra mile for the young people who access our services.”

YMCA Humber’s Kent Street Youth Hub offers a safe and supportive space for young people, including those facing difficulties such as poor mental health or social isolation. The funds raised will help improve shared spaces, enhance facilities, and ensure the hub remains a trusted, positive environment.

Amy Rogers, Trustee at YMCA Humber and fellow marathon runner, added: “Running a marathon is no small thing - but neither is what we’re trying to achieve at Kent Street. The young people we work with deserve the very best we can offer. This run is our way of stepping up to the challenge, just like they do every day.”

The local charity is inviting the community to show their support by donating via their JustGiving page, following the team’s journey on YMCA Humber’s social media channels.

Local residents and businesses are being encouraged to show their support by donating online.
