Holly's Story

Holly and her daughter, Molly, have been using the holiday club services at YMCA Humber since April 2025.

As a single parent, Holly was finding it difficult to find somewhere for Molly to go during the school holidays which was cost effective, this was until she found out about the wraparound services at YMCA Humber.

Holly is now able to work during the school holidays knowing her daughter is at a safe place which she thrives at. Holly said, “she enjoys it so much, and she learns so much, and she has that stability.”

Holiday club enhances child development through different activities, these range from creating pictures to take home, to days out at the beach, encouraging both social interaction and skill building. Not only is holiday club all about having fun, but Molly is also learning things she would in early years.

Molly talks about YMCA holiday club excitedly, and on the days Molly is not booked in to attend, she asks her mum if she can go. This highlights the impact holiday club has had on Molly. Holly said, “she is making friends with other children, I am making friends with other parents from it, and it is like a big community now and its fantastic.”

Millie, Out of School Club Manager said, "since Molly has been coming to holiday club her confidence has grown drastically, she has made some fantastic friendships with peers and now has created a great network for herself."

"Holiday club enables children to engage in activities they may not have access too otherwise; it allows them to be socially and physically active building on components that are vital for their holistic development. Furthermore, they are cared for in a safe environment with a trusted adult that they can confide and relate too."
