YMCA Sleep Easy 2014

January 8, 2014

YMCA HUMBER’S annual Sleep Easy fundraiser returns for 2014 with a brand new overnight home – Grimsby’s Freshney Place shopping centre.

The yearly sleep-out has raised over £75,000 for homeless causes across the Humber Region in the past three years and organisers are looking forward to bring the event to Grimsby’s premier shopping area.

Freshney Place offered support of the YMCA event via their connection with Harbour Place – who are currently the shopping centre’s Charity of the Year, as well as one of the Sleep Easy partners in North-East Lincolnshire.

With a £100,000 fundraising total in their sights, Sleep Easy partners in North East Lincolnshire, which include CARE NE Lincs, as well as the YMCA and Harbour Place, are hoping that the event will be more successful than ever before.

YMCA Communications Coordinator Jonathan Byrne said: “We are delighted to bring Sleep Easy to Freshney Place in 2014. “It is a name synonymous with Grimsby and their support to the campaign can help the Sleep Easy partners reach our fundraising targets for the coming year.

“We are hoping that the people of North East Lincolnshire will once again get behind the campaign, as they have done in previous years, helping continue the battle against homelessness.”

Sarah Taylor, General Manager for CARE NE Lincs added: “Sleep Easy is a great opportunity for groups who work with homeless people all year round, to come together and raise awareness of the problem of homelessness. This year we are looking forward to partnering with the YMCA and Harbour Place in this exciting, yet daunting challenge.”

Harbour Place Project Coordinator Dave Carlile also said: “We are so pleased to be involved with Sleep Easy once again. The funds that are raised can go a long way to ensuring that no person should have to spend a second night on the streets.”

Amanda Austin, Centre Director of Freshney Place commented “We’re delighted that Sleep Easy will be taking place in our shopping centre car park this year. It is a fantastic event and raises money for a very well deserved cause.

“As a centre, we have worked hard over recent months to raise the profile of our chosen charity of the year, Harbour Place and donate vital funds and much needed items to them.

“The Sleep Easy event provides a great opportunity to continue to support Harbour Place, along with other charities and offer our shoppers a chance to do something different for charity and sleep over at Freshney Place. We hope lots of you are able to support this and take part!”

Sleep Easy 2014 takes place on 31st January 2014 through to 1st February 2014 between 6pm and 6am. More details of how to sign-up or donate can be found at http://sleepeasy.gcymca.com.
