Many adults will be ‘SLEEPING OUT’ in Grimsby and Hull on 7th February to raise awareness and sponsorship for the work of YMCA Humber in helping young people at risk of homelessness and we are now offering children to get involved in their homes to ‘SLEEP IN’ for Sleep Easy 2020
Sleep Easy is YMCA Humber’s annual sponsored ‘sleep-out’ that raises thousands of pounds in order for us to continue providing, building and maintaining clean and safe supported accommodation for homeless young people.
This year we have received many requests for children to get involved to understand how everyone is not fortunate enough to sleep in their own bed every night!
Due to safeguarding we cannot allow children under 11 years to ‘Sleep Out’ at the actual event, even if they are accompanied by an adult; BUT following your requests we have created an ‘Sleep In’ activity booklet so children can get involved in their own homes by giving up their beds for one night to sleep on the sofa, a camp bed or even the floor!
You can find the booklet at http://bit.ly/35Vtmpb and it includes recipes for a healthy breakfast [to prepare with an adult], a poetry competition, a word search and their very own sponsorship form.
YMCA Humber’s Sleep Easy runs from 6pm on Friday 7th February to 6am on Saturday 8th February 2020 in Hull and Grimsby and it would be wonderful if your child participated on this day too. They just need to let people know that they are sleeping on a sofa for one night to raise awareness of the hidden homeless and young people who have to sleep on a sofa every night.
The funds you raise this year will be used to support the development of Move IN & Move ON initiatives at YMCA Humber.
Many people arrive with absolutely nothing. During the Move IN, besides providing accommodation, meals and support services on site, the basic necessities are also provided. When residents are ready to be independent again, the support of our Move ON initiative assist residents back into independent living within the community. YMCA Humber’s coaches outline the needs of a resident to identify what is required. It could be sourcing furniture plus making applications for financial support. On Moving Day, the box van is used to deliver furniture and help set up the new home ready to sleep that evening.
YMCA Humber are hoping that this year’s Sleep Easy event will act as a way of showing young people in our community who are homeless that the public do care about them and that they are trying to tackle the problem of homelessness by raising vital funds.
