New volunteer programme: Step to Success
YMCA Humber are delighted to announce the launch of their new volunteer programme, Step to Success.
Step to Success will provide YMCA Humber residents with the opportunity to gain the skills, knowledge, and experience to step into employment. Volunteers will choose one of four pathways: Youth and Community, Hospitality, Horticulture, or Caretaker.
Since June 2022, 24 residents have volunteered at YMCA Humber and with sponsorship from individuals and local organisations, more residents will have access to this opportunity.
Demi Towle, Volunteer Coordinator at YMCA Humber said, “taking on volunteering opportunities within our organisation at YMCA Humber has changed many individuals’ lives. It has made our organisation stronger and an amazing place to work. Volunteering has given people a healthy space to build up confidence and develop a sense of purpose and fulfilment.
Individuals that have volunteered have each took their own first step towards their step to success and have thrived in their roles. Volunteering has given people that chance to gain professional work experience, strengthen their capabilities and build on their knowledge. Many of our volunteers have achieved qualifications and started employed work. It has been amazing and exciting to see those who have flourished with us at YMCA Humber, and we hope to help many more.”
Sponsoring a volunteer at YMCA Humber costs £546 which contributes to on-the-job training, one-to-one mentoring, online qualifications and role specific courses, teamwork activities, CV preparation support, interview skills and preparation, and uniform/interview attire.
As a thank you for your support, all sponsors will be invited to the YMCA Humber volunteer awards and will be recognised across their social media platforms and website.
To kickstart this new opportunity for YMCA Humber volunteers, Grimsby Rotary have kindly donated £1000 to go towards sponsoring two residents through the volunteering programme, which will take roughly six months to complete.
