Chris Takes on 1000-Mile Challenge to Raise Funds For YMCA Humber
This September, Chris Charlton will take on an extraordinary challenge: cycling 1,000 miles across the UK in just 11 days, tackling over 17,000 metres of climbing all to raise vital funds for YMCA Humber.
Riding between 80 and 125 miles every day, Chris will carry everything he needs on his bike, taking on the challenge self-sufficiently through changing weather, steep climbs and long days in the saddle. It will be a true test of resilience, determination and endurance.
But this challenge is about far more than cycling.
It’s about creating opportunities, transforming lives and supporting local people who need it most.
Why YMCA Humber?
YMCA Humber believes everyone deserves a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become.
Every day, the local charity supports young people and adults across North East Lincolnshire through safe accommodation, youth work, mental wellbeing support, education, training and community services.
Whether it’s helping a young person find stability, providing a safe space to grow in confidence, or supporting someone through difficult times, YMCA Humber is there when people need it most.
The money raised through this challenge will help ensure that support continues to reach those who need it.
Why Chris?
Chris has chosen to take on this challenge because he’s seen first-hand the difference YMCA Humber makes within the community.
His journey is also deeply personal.
Along the route, Chris will stop to visit his late father-in-law’s grave in the Welsh Valleys, a moment of reflection that reminds us all that every journey has a story behind it.
Throughout the 11 days, he’ll be sharing the highs, the lows and everything in between, showing what determination, resilience and purpose can achieve.
Follow the Journey
From setting off at YMCA Humber to crossing into Wales, around Anglesey, climbing through the mountains of Snowdonia, reaching iconic landmarks including Menai Bridge, Llanberis Pass, Portmeirion, the Mach Loop, St David's, across the South Coast of Wales, before returning back to 21 Freeman Street.
Supporters will be able to follow Chris’s progress through regular updates, videos, photographs and fundraising milestones.
