This summer Lucy Coppin, Information and Performance Manager at YMCA Humber, will be volunteering at the Fujisan YMCA Global Eco Village in Japan, after successfully being shortlisted and accepted onto the 5-week summer programme.

Lucy said, "I can't wait to get started. I applied because it was one of those opportunities that felt too good to miss. The programme is open to people aged 18–35, and as I'm nearly 35, I knew it was my chance to take on a new challenge. I've always had an interest in travelling, learning about different countries and experiencing new cultures, so this felt like the perfect opportunity.

During my time in Japan, I'll be volunteering with children, which is something completely different from my day-to-day job. I'm looking forward to stepping outside my comfort zone, developing new skills, and making a positive contribution whilst learning from everyone around me.

What I'm most excited about is experiencing Japanese culture, trying lots of amazing food, working alongside the YMCA staff, fellow volunteers and the children, and sharing a little of my own culture in return. I'm also looking forward to connecting with local communities and making memories that I'll carry with me for years to come."
