Do you feel unsure about your goals in life?

YMCA Humber are launching a new provision: Build Your Skills, Shape Your Future, designed for 16-24-year-olds who are looking to combine essential life skills alongside their passion for sport.

The programme is free and will be taking place every Tuesday, 4pm – 6pm at YMCA Humber on Freeman Street, run on a drop-in basis.

At YMCA Humber we recognise that the journey for employment can be daunting, but this provision focuses on engaging with individuals who are keen to gain the relevant skills to build their CV, alongside providing structured sporting opportunities for young people.

This programme will widen prospects and help young people achieve their goals, by merging physical and mental wellbeing, we aim to upskill young people to achieve employment.

We are keen to focus on reducing anti-social behaviour by improving access to organised sport, while equipping young adults with physical, social, and practical life skills essential for independence and employability.

During this programme individuals will gain; work and life skills; confidence; the skills to work as part of a team; industry training and support to build their CV. Young people will also be equipped with essential skills such as maths and English, cooking, food hygiene and relevant qualifications to enhance employability.

Donna Chandler, Youth Development Manager at YMCA Humber said, “Through ASDAN qualifications, CV-building support, PolEd platforms and sport, we are creating opportunities for young people to grow, belong, and build confidence while developing the real-life skills needed for their future careers and communities. This is especially important for 16 to 24-year-olds in our area, where many young people face barriers to employment, low confidence, and limited opportunities. We want young people to feel valued, heard, and supported while gaining practical skills, positive relationships, and a sense of purpose that can help shape a more positive future.”
